Boxing Day, Friday, 26 December, 2014

Race Starts At 7:30 am

If you overindulged through the holidays, you might be keen on starting those New Year's resolutions a bit early. The best way to start working off the turkey is to join in the annual Dashing Through The Sand event on Boxing Day, when participants walk or jog 1.5 miles from Hemingway's Restaurant to Surfside Beach Restaurant & Bar.

Boxing Day falls on Friday, Dec. 26, and as it's a public holiday in the Cayman Islands, there is no excuse to not sign up. Participants receive T-shirts featuring an original design by local artist John Broad, as well as breakfast and entry into numerous prize draws.

There are usually "fastest" and "lastest" awards, with random gifts for in-betweeners. It's a great deal for the registration fee, and is always a very social event with a good mix of residents and tourists taking to the beach. In fact, a number of annual visitors make sure to attend every year, so there are always familiar faces in the crowd.

Thanks to the balmy temperatures we experience in the Cayman Islands, even in the winter months, Dashing Through The Sand is a comfortable event with no need for warm woollies. Participants should prepare for some wave action, however, so shoes are definitely optional. A wide range of athletic talent signs up each year, from sashay-ers to sprinters, and all are welcome.
